A-Model 72183 Yakovlev Yak-8 Soviet Passenger aircraft

The Yakovlev Yak-8 (NATO designation: Crib) was a Soviet, prototype, wooden-structure transport plane, in a low wing configuration, with a landing gear retracted in flight. The drive was provided by two Szwiecow M-11FM engines, 145 HP each . The prototype's flight took place in 1944 - the machine never entered mass production.

The Yak-8 was an extension of the previous Yakowlew design, i.e. the Yak-6 aircraft. Compared to its predecessor, it was enlarged, much more aerodynamically refined - especially in the nose part - and the mass-produced machines were to receive much more powerful engines, which would improve poor performance and allow taking more cargo or more passengers (instead of 4 people - 6 people). However, in the course of work on the prototypes, it turned out that the introduced changes had a negative impact on the behavior of the aircraft in flight, and the performance was not significantly improved. For these reasons, work on the Yak-8 was discontinued in 1944.
