WAK EXTRA03-2024 Wroclaw - Town Hall

The Town Hall in Wrocław (Dolnośląskie Voivodeship) was erected on the Market Square, and the first works related to it began in the 13th century, when the so-called consistorium. In the years 1328-1333, next to this building, a smaller one, called the praetorium, was built. Shortly later, probably in the years 1343-1357, a session room for the Court Chamber was established. In the later part of the fourteenth century, the town hall underwent further reconstructions, such as adding a floor to the consistorium, and the tower was also rebuilt, probably erected at the turn of the 13th and 14th centuries. The Wrocław town hall was clearly expanded in the period from around 1470 to 1504, when the building took on a distinctly late Gothic form with only some Renaissance elements. In 1510, the façade of the town hall was covered with a painted decoration that survived until the end of the 19th century. The town hall, during both world wars, survived in a relatively good condition, and in the years 1949-1953 it was fully renovated. At present, the building houses the City Museum.
