The Golden Horde, also known as the Kipchat Khanate, is a state created on the western frontiers of the Genghis Khan empire by his grandson Batu Khan around 1240. The capital of the state was initially Sarai-Batu, and later Sarai-Berke. At the peak of its development, in the mid-fourteenth century, the Golden Horde encompassed large areas of today's Ukraine, southern and central Russia and Kazakhstan. It is worth adding that the term "Golden Horde" first appeared in Russian sources from the 16th century. Previously, the name Ulus Jochi was used to describe this country. Obviously, such a vast country required considerable armed forces. As with the Mongolian army, the armed forces of the Golden Horde were composed primarily of light and heavy cavalry. It was based on its high mobility and speed of movement, and on the battlefield, the aim was to surprise and flank the enemy. The mobilization potential of the Golden Horde probably amounted to tens of thousands of warriors. For example, it is assumed that in the battle of Kulikowo Pole in 1380, Khan Mamaj could lead about 30-40 thousand soldiers. warriors, although there are also much larger numbers in this regard. However, during the battle on the Vorskla River in 1399, the Golden Orda probably issued from 70 to 90 thousand. people.
