A-Model 07212 Mikoyan I-270 Soviet jet fighter

The Mikoyan I-270 was a Soviet prototype fighter aircraft from the Cold War period. The machine was made in a top wing configuration with a landing gear retracted in flight in a three-support configuration. The prototype's flight took place in 1946, but the machine never entered production. The length of this aircraft was 8.92 meters with a wingspan of 7.75 meters. The propulsion was to be provided by a single RD-2 M3V rocket engine with a thrust of 14.2 kN. It was assumed that the on-board armament would consist of two 23mm NS-23 cannons.

The Mikoyan I-270 was developed for the Soviet Air Force, which wanted to acquire a new missile-powered interceptor designed to defend strategically important points and areas in the USSR. The machine focuses on the highest possible maximum speed and the best possible rate of climb. The I-270 aircraft in its general concept and aerodynamic system used the experience of working on the RP-318 or Bereziak-Isajew BI-1 machines. In the course of the tests, only two prototypes of this aircraft were created, both of which crashed, which greatly contributed to the abandonment of this project.
