The Latecoere 298 is a French, single-engine, metal-structure mid-wing seaplane from the Second World War. It was designed as a torpedo boat, but also used as a dive bomber in land and sea operations. These planes were delivered to French units in October 1938, and when the war with Germany began, the air force had 81 machines of this type. They were initially used for patrols in the Mediterranean Sea and detection of submarines, but after the Wehrmacht forces entered France, Latecoere 298 planes began systematic bombing raids on German mechanized columns. After the surrender of France, some of the machines were taken over by the Luftwaffe and those that remained in the hands of the French were sent to the colonies in North Africa. The last combat missions of these machines are attacks on the German navy during the fights for the liberation of France. The surviving planes of this type were used until 1950. as training machines. Technical data: length: 12.56m, wingspan: 15.5m, height: 5.25m, maximum speed: 300km / h, maximum range: 1500km, maximum ceiling 6300m, armament: fixed - 3 Darne 7 machine guns, 5mm, suspended - up to 680 kg of bombs.
