DISCONTINUED Special Hobby 72117 Heinkel He 100V-8 World Speed Record

After the defeat of the He-112 prototype in the competition for a standard Luftwaffe single-seat fighter (the Me-109 won the competition), Heinkel began working on a fighter with more modern design and technology on its own initiative. The plane should have been designated He-113, but Heinkel has obtained approval to use the number 100 for Fieseler plants. The first prototype was flown on January 22, 1933, and soon after that, more were flown. The He-100 with the DB-601 engine was a very fast plane. June 6, 1933 the third He-100 V-3 prototype piloted by Ernst Udet broke the 100 km circular speed record, reaching 634 km / h; and March 10, 1939. Hans Dieterle, on a specially adapted prototype He-100 V-8 with a tuned DB-601 engine with a short-term power of 1802KM, achieved a record result of 746.6 km / h! In press reports about both of these records, the fictitious designation of He-112 was given instead of the real designation of the He-100 aircraft. This was related to the ongoing advertising campaign of the He-112 aircraft, which was being prepared for export. The obtained flight speeds were the result of the application of a high load on the wing surface (short wings) and the surface cooling system consisting in evaporation of a part of the cooling fluid on the surface of the airfoil. The converted plane was designated He-100D. Three planes of the trial series D-0 and 12 aircraft of the D-1 series were produced. Ultimately, 6 prototypes of the aircraft (V-1, V-2, V-4, V-5, V-6 and V-7) were transferred to the USSR, 3 He-100 D0 planes to Japan, where they were to be produced under license as A7 Hei, and 12 He-100 D-1 aircraft were organized into a special unit for air defense of the Heinkel plant in Rostock. Factory pilots flew them. It was these planes that were later shown in chronicles and press reports.
