The Fokker D.XXI is a Dutch mixed low wing fighter from World War II. The roots of this aircraft go back to a competition announced by the Dutch aviation in 1934, for a fighter for the East Indies Army. The winner was the Fokker factory, which presented the Ont999 machine, a pre-prototype of the Fokker D.XXI. The flight of the prototype took place on March 27, 1936, and mass production started in the same year. In total, 45 aircraft of this type were built in the years 1936-1939. The aircraft was exported in small quantities to Denmark and Finland, where licensed production was also started. They differed in their armament, and the planes intended for Denmark were powered by the 645 HP Bristol Mercury VI-S engine, instead of the 830 HP Bristol Mercury VIII engine used in Dutch machines. At the outbreak of World War II, the Netherlands had 29 operational aircraft of this type. During the war of 1940, they had 16 certain and 17 probable air victories. Technical data: length: 8.2 m, wingspan: 11 m, height: 2.92 m, maximum speed: 460 km / h, climb speed: 13.3 m / s, maximum range: 930 km, maximum ceiling 11,350 m, armament: fixed-4 Vickers cal.7.7mm machine guns.
