Citroen Mehari is a French off-road passenger car that was first presented to the public in 1968. Its serial production started in the same year and lasted until 1987 - about 145,000 copies of this car were produced during it.
Citroen Mehari was designed and implemented into production as a new model in the company's offer, without having its direct predecessor. It was designed by Roland de La Poype. The constructors' goal was to create the lightest and cheap to produce all-terrain vehicle possible. In order to reduce the cost of research and development, the Mehari design was heavily based on the 2CV model. The main and most important difference is the body, which is largely made of plastics and reduces the weight of the vehicle. The engines with a capacity of 0.6 liters and the power of 26 and 29 HP were used as the drive. The Citroen Mehari has successfully served as a medical unit in many Paris-Dakar rallies. It was also used by the French army and military police. In 2016, Citroen launched the E-Mehari model for sale, but structurally nothing to do with the Mehari model.
