The Lockheed C-60 Lodestar was an American military passenger and transport plane from the Second World War in the spine-wing configuration with the landing gear retracted in flight in the classic configuration. The flight of the prototype took place in 1939, and serial production started a year later (1940). During its course, about 625 machines of this type were created. The drive - in the C-60 A-5 version - was provided by two engines Wright R-1820-87 with 1,200 hp each. The length of the aircraft was 15.19 meters with a wingspan of 19.96 meters. The maximum speed did not exceed 430 km / h. The plane did not have permanent on-board weapons. The C-60 Lodestar was developed by Lockheed Corporation as a development of the Model 14 Super Electra. Compared to the prototype, it differed primarily in the elongated fuselage, the changed shape of the wings and their wingspan. The machine was initially dedicated to the civilian market, as a competitor to the Douglas DC-3 machine, but due to the outbreak of World War II, its main recipient was the US and US Navy air forces. During the war, Lockheed C-60 Lodestar machines were used as transport planes and for the transport of important personalities and high officers.
