Airco DH.4 is a two-seater, biplane bomber from the First World War with a wooden and canvas construction. The prototype flew in August 1916, and in October that year DH.4 was sent to the front units. The series aircraft in RFC service were powered by a 375HP Rolls-Royce Eagle VIII engine. The DH.4 was undeservedly known as the "Burning Coffin", which came from the beliefs of the pilots that the plane caught fire very easily after being strafed by the enemy, which, however, was not true. The DH.4 was also produced under license in the United States and was powered by the Liberty VIII 400HP engine. In the years 1916-1918, 1,449 aircraft were built for the RFC, and over 4,800 for the United States, the DH.4 served in the US civil aviation also after the war as a min. mail or fire plane. Technical data: Maximum speed: 230 km / h, speed of climb: 5.08 m / s, maximum ceiling 6700 m, maximum range: 770 km, armament: fixed - 1 Lewis 7.7mm machine gun, suspended - up to 210 kg of bombs .
